Our equipment: At the heart of our negative and slide scanning services is a customized Epson V850, a professional scanner with a practical scanning resolution of 6400ppi. We use Digital Ice technology to remove dust and scratches to ensure clean and clear digital images. Additionally, we provide high-quality optical scans at 29 megapixels for 35mm negatives/slides.
At what resolution should I scan my negatives / slides? It all depends on how you’d like to share your photographs. For example, our 35mm high quality optical scan yields a maximum print size of a 46x30cm photograph at 300 dpi, which is perfect for expositions.
Similarly, if only wish to use your images on social media, our low and web-quality scans are more than enough. Also, be sure to check out our resolution calculator to see which resolution best fits your needs.
8mm & Super 8mm
We scan all 8mm / Super8mm films using an optical telecine at 1080p (HD) in .mp4 format. You can also choose from additional options to improve its quality including jitter reduction and/or color restoration.
For those looking to convert their old home movies shot in 8mm or Super 8mm, we take great care in ensuring that your films are not damaged in any way during the telecine process, however, please note older films are quite fragile and some breaks and tears may occur, in which case we’ll repair it.
Videocassettes & DVDs
Did you know that videocassettes recorded in the 1980s–1990s are already approaching the end of reliable playback? Time, heat, and normal aging slowly erase the images stored on the tape.
Those recordings may hold moments that can never be recreated—family gatherings, childhood memories, and voices from the past. Digitizing them today ensures those memories are preserved and can be shared for generations.
Each videocassette and DVD or VideoCD is scanned in its native resolution (generally 400-525 lines, or 720p in somecases) and converted to .mp4 files. You can also choose to enhance the quality of your digital videos by opting for additional services, like upscaling to HDV driven by AI that significantly improves image quality, reducing noise and enhancing details, colors, and overall clarity.
